The Holy Prophet has stated; “Allahعَزَّ وَجَلَّ (God) calls for generosity in everything, so be generous when you slaughter, sharpen your blade to ease its pain”. Islamic law requires that animals intended for human use be slaughtered in a particular way. The order for Halal slaughter can be expressed as follows:
An unstable animal that does not feed, an animal which is so feeble that it does not have marrow in its bones (such an animal which cannot stand because of its skinniness), a blind or cockeyed animal whose fault of one eye is evident, a sick animal whose sickness is apparent (i.e., the one which cannot eat fodder because of its sickness), a disabled animal that cannot go to the slaughter-place on its foot, the animal that does not have ears from origin or does not have one ear, a wild bull, a wild goat or the animal having both male and female genital-organs, or an un-sanitary-eating animal, if the animals one foot is cut, more than 1/3rd part of the ear or tail has been cut, an animal that does not have teeth or the animal whose nose or nipples have been cut or whose nipples are dry, the Qurbānī of all such defectives are not accepted. Animals should be slaughtered in a snug way. Water should be provided to the animals before slaughter, and a hungry animal should not be slaughtered. Please do not abuse or torture your sacrificial animal because they will be your rides on the bridge of “Siraath”, the blade should be re-sharpened before slaughter. The blade must not slay due to its weight. ‘Zabiha’ in Arabic means ‘slaughtered’. The slaughtering should be done by cutting the esophagus and the blood veins in the neck which will cause the animal’s death, but do not cut the spinal cord. The windpipe, food-tract and the two deep veins must be cut. The slaughtering must be done in a single motion without lifting the blade. The blade should not be lifted while slaughtering the animal. Slaughtering must be done by a wise mature Muslim. Animal’s slayed by a Non-Muslim will not be Halal. The animal should not be brutally dragged along to the place of slaughter. Firstly make your intentions why are you sacrificing the animal then recite Du’a
After reciting the Du’a the Qurbani animal should be placed on its left side facing the Qiblah and then start slaughtering the animal. The blade should not be sharpened in the presence of the animals. The animal should be slaughtered at a lonely place so that other animals may not observe the slaughter. The head of the animal should not be separated during the slaughter but later after the animal is completely lifeless, even the blade should not go inward into the medulla spinal. Skinning or separating any piece of the animal is not permitted before the animal is completely lifeless. Slaughtering of the animal should be started from the neck to the front-part (bosom) to the vertebral column. The name of Allah must be called-upon at the time of slaughtering by saying:
بِسْمِ اللہِ اللہُ اَکْبَر (In the Name of Allah; Allah is the Greatest.) If at the time of slaughtering the name of someone else other than Almighty Allah (God) is intentionally called upon then the meat becomes Haram “unlawful.” If a Muslim forgets to call upon the name of Almighty Allah (God) at the time of slaughtering (which is “Wa’ajib”) the Qurbani will not be performed. Animals slaughtered in an Islamic way remain fresh for a much longer period because of the insufficiency of blood in the meat as variance to other techniques of slaughtering. The instant cutting of vessels of the neck isolates the flow of blood to the neuron of the brain which is responsible for pain. Therefore the animal does not feel any pain. The animal seems to grapple, tussle and kick but it is not due to pain, it is because of the recession and loosening of the muscles lacking in blood and because of the flow of blood out of the body. Sacrifice is basically performed my all Muslims across the globe to please Almighty Allah (God) so try to give away as much as you can .The hides of the sacrificial animals can be donated to Dawat-e-Islami, a non-political propagation of Quran and Sunnah knowledge serving Islam and its followers.
